Climbing a mountain
…is what it often feels like when we have a new project or venture in front of us and feel overwhelmed by it. Can you relate?
We see the mountain in front of us. We see the peak. And we know that the view will be stunning and that we will feel incredible when we get to the top.
And we really want go! BUT we hesitate. Because it just seems so far away. We know it is going to be extremely strenuous to get there. There might be risky sections. Something could happen and we could get hurt. Or lost. We might not be fit enough. Or just don’t have the confidence.
So we have to decide. To either not go at all. Or to give it a try.
We might even train ahead of the hike. We might get the best gear. And take all the safety precautions we possibly can. But we still don’t know how it is going to go.
Right now my mountain is figuring out my coaching business. Something I have never done before. Where the sheer amount of information, training and things I need to implement is overwhelming. Where I have to push through so many of my own limiting beliefs. Where there is so much unknown territory ahead of me.
But where I know that the top of the mountain will be my independence!
I don’t know what to expect along the way. Steep hikes, narrow passages, taking the wrong turn? Do I have the right equipment? Enough water and food? What happens if I injure myself?
But I can see the top! I really want to get there. And enjoy the view. And celebrate!
So I just go. And take one step at the time. Enjoying the moments of the hike. Of what I get to discover along the way, the view that is changing the higher I get, the stops in between to rest and to look back to how far I have come.
Knowing that I could always turn around and walk back down. But also knowing that if I never tried I would never find out if I could make it to the top. Knowing that even if I turned around I would still have the experiences of however far I have come than if I never started in the first place.
So I’m going to climb my mountain. Knowing that every step I take will take me closer to the top!
